Mr. John-Hallvard Woodgrove was the Norwegian Champion in Junior with Jørgen Molberg in the years 1990 and 1991. Presently he Is the Deputy Chairman of NBF Østerdal and authors bridge-related articles for the daily bridge column in Østlendingen.

Woodgroves Two Clubs

These responses are adjusted to fit with Woodgroves Multi. You can of course use this convention even if you don't use Woodgroves Multi, but then 3/3 don't promise a side suit and 3NT shows a balanced 25-27 HCP. Are you one of those who become afraid when you have 2 long suits and your partner opens with a strong 2? Maybe these responses are the answer to you prayers.

Responses to a 2 Clubs Opening Bid

2 :	Shows 0-5 high card points, or 6 plus high card points and waiting (may well be unbalanced).
2 NT:	At least 5-5 distribution in both Minor suits.
3 :	At least 5-5 distribution in Hearts and Clubs.
3 :	At least 5-5 distribution in Spades and Clubs.
3 NT:	At least 5-5 distribution in Spades and Diamonds.

Rebids After 2 Clubs - 2 Diamonds

2 :	Natural (after which a 2 No Trump response equals 6 plus high card points.
2 :	Natural (after which a 2 No Trump response equals 6 plus high card points.
2 NT:	Strong No Trump (20-21 / 22-24 / ?-?).
3 :	Shows a 5-card plus Diamond suit with a side suit.
3 :	Shows a 5-card plus Club suit with a side suit.
3 :	Shows a five-card plus Heart suit. Game forcing.
3 :	Shows a five-card plus Spade suit. Game forcing.
3 NT:	Promises 0/10 playing tricks. Unbalanced hand.

Additional Bidding

After 2 Clubs-2 Diamonds or 3 Clubs-3 Diamonds (asking for side suit). Bid your side suit (3 No Trump = Diamonds).

After 2 Clubs-2 Diamonds or 3 Diamonds-3 Hearts (asking for side suit). Bid your side suit (3 Spades = Hearts; 3NT = Spades).

NOTE: Because Heart rebid from the responder is conventional in this sequence (asking for side suit), 3 NT shows Hearts; 3NT = 5 plus Hearts; (3 Spades = 5 plus Spades as usual).
