Version 2: The origin of this defense method is unknown. Once the opponents have opened the bidding auction with a Multi 2 Diamonds, which normally shows one of three possible types of holdings, then the following defense method is employed. Some Multi 2 Diamonds openings also show a fourth type of opening, namely a 4-4-4-1 distribution, so the defenders should first acquaint themselves with the version employed by their opponents.

The following defense method applies only to the immediate seat following the Multi 2 Diamonds opener.

		Double		Informative double showing 12 plus high card points. The double is forcing only if the partner of the Multi 2 Diamonds bidder passes.
		2		Natural. Shows opening values of minimum 12 high card points, and at least a 5-card solid or a 6-card semi-solid Heart suit.
		2		Natural. Shows opening values of minimum 12 high card points, and at least a 5-card solid or a 6-card semi-solid Spade suit.
		2 NT		This is a transfer bid to Clubs.
		3		This is a transfer bid to Diamonds.
		3		This is a transfer bid to Hearts.
		3		This is a transfer bid to Spades.
