Evolution and Development

Note: The Hexagon system is based on Myxo Twos introduced by Dr. Robert (Bob) Sebesfi in the year 1976 and variations of this concept by Mr. Sean Bentley and Mr. John Sfinias. The Hexagon system was developed with the encouragement and valuable input of Dr. Robert (Bob) Sebesfi .... and the final system was called Hexagon as each suit bid can be one of the six options.

Note: The designation calici is short for rabbit calicivirus disease (RCD) or viral haemorrhagic disease (VHD), is a highly infectious and often fatal disease that affects wild and domestic rabbits of the species Oryctolagus cuniculus. The infectious agent responsible for the disease is rabbit calicivirus (RCV), genus Lagovirus of the family Caliciviridae. The virus infects only rabbits, and has been used in some countries to control rabbit populations.

Note: This designation is presented in contrast with the Myxomatosis Two Bids as authored by Mr. Robert (BobI) Sebesfi, which is sometimes shortened to myxi or myxo), and which is a disease that affects rabbits and is caused by the Myxoma virus. It was first observed in Uruguay in laboratory rabbits in the late 19th century. It was introduced into Australia in 1950 in an attempt to control the rabbit population.

Opening Bids Only

		4.		Promises weak Hearts or Spades with values between 5-10 high card points.
		5.		Promises a game forincg holding in either Hearts and Spades. This option is similar to a strong, artificial 2 Clubs opening bid, but shows in contrast both Major suits, or
		6.		Promises a balanced holding with 18-19 high card points.
2 :		1.		Promises 8.5 tricks with Diamonds as the predominant suit; not game forcing, or
		2.		Shows a weak Heart suit, or
		3.		Shows a 4-4-4-1, (or 5-4-4-0), holding with 17 plus high card points and a singleton or void in Hearts, or
		4.		Promises weak Spades or Clubs with values between 5-10 high card points, or
		5.		Promises a game forcing holding in Clubs or Spades, or
		6.		Promises a holding with 20-21 high card points and a balanced distribution.
2 :		1.		Promises 8.5 tricks with Hearts as the predominant suit; not game forcing, or
		2.		Shows a weak Spade suit, or
		3.		Shows a 4-4-4-1, (or 5-4-4-0), holding with 17 plus high card points and a singleton or void in Spades, or
		4.		Promises weak Clubs or Diamonds with values between 5-10 high card points, or
		5.		Promises a game forcing holding in Clubs or Diamonds, or
		6.		Promises a holding with 22-23 high card points and a balanced distribution.
2 :		1.		Promises 8.5 tricks with Spades as the predominant suit; not game forcing, or
		2.		Shows a weak Club suit, or
		3.		Shows a 4-4-4-1, (or 5-4-4-0), holding with 17 plus high card points and a singleton or void in Clubs, or
		4.		Promises weak Diamonds or Hearts with values between 5-10 high card points, or
		5.		Promises a game forcing holding in Hearts or Diamonds, or
		6.		Promises a holding with 24-25 high card points and a balanced distribution.
2 NT:		1.		Promises a weak two-suited holding in either Clubs and Hearts or in Diamonds and Spades with values between 5-10 high card points, or
		2.		Promises a game forcing holding with either Clubs and Hearts or in Diamonds and Spades, or
		3.		Promises a holding with 26 plus high card points and a balanced distribution.
3 :				Gambling 3NT. The responder to bid 3NT with stoppers or bid 4 Clubs or 5 Clubs / 5 Diamonds.
3 NT:				Minor suit preempt. The responder is to select Minor suit or bid anything else.
3 :				Promises a single-suiter, which gaurantees 100% game. The responder should bid 3 Diamonds as awaiting bid. The responder may not pass until a game contract has been reached. For example, a distribution of 5-4-4-0 with a solid Major suit can be opened with this bid.
3 :				Preempt transfer opening bid to Hearts.
3 :				Preempt transfer opening bid to Spades.

Be aware whether or not the feature is alertable or not and whether an announcement should or must be made. Check with the governing body and/or the bridge district and/or the bridge unit prior to the game to establish the guidelines applied. Please include the particular feature on your convention card in order that your opponents are also aware of this feature during the bidding process, since this information must be made known to them according to the Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge. We do not always include the procedure regarding Alerts and/or Announcements, since these regulations are changed and revised during time by the governing body.
