George Rosenkranz Control Showing Responses

The original concept is designated as control showing responses (also step responses) to a strong, artificial 2 Clubs opening bid. These original responses should be viewed first and then the variation and/or version as suggested by Mr. George Rosenkranz of Mexico City, Mexico, which not only show the number of controls but also possible stoppers in suits for a suitable No Trump contract.

Mr. George Rosenkranz, who was born August 20, 1916, in Budapest, Hungary, and his birth-name is Mr. György Rosenkranz. He later moved to Switzerland to study at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, known in German as Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich. After his education years he voluntarily left Switzerland to relocate to Quito, Ecuador. However, when the United States enetered the world war he accepted the offer of the Cuban President Mr. Fulgencio Batista to allow all war refugees to remain in Cuba. In the year 1945 Mr. George Rosenkranz relocated to Mexico City, Mexico.

Foundation of the Concept

The foundation of the conventional method is to count each Ace as 2 Controls and each King as 1 Control.

The response method of Mr. George Rosenkranz shows only controls. Continuances are per partnership agreement. The first responses after a strong, artificial 2 Clubs opening by partner are as follows:

2 : Shows 0-1 control.
2 : Shows 2 controls.
2 : Shows 3 controls.
2 NT: Shows 4 controls in 3 or 4 suits.
3 : Shows 4 controls in 2 suits.
3 : Shows 5 controls.

The main argument for such a version is the idea that the responder may become the declarer if the first response is 2 No Trump. Since the responder holds at least stoppers in at least three suits, the argument is by Mr. George Rosenkranz that the opening lead come up to the stronger hand.
