The origin of the designation is unknown. The No Trump range is considered weak and the opening of a 4-card Major suit is preferred. The opening of the multiple 1 Club opening bid requires that the first response by the partner is an artificial negative 1 Diamond if the responder has a range of only 0-6 high card points.
