The Bonney's Squeeze is a triple squeeze against one opponent combined with a simple squeeze against the other opponent. This particular sqeeze technique was first analyzed by and credited to Mr. Norman F. Bonney (date of birth is unknown - died in the year 1945) of Boston, Massachusetts, United States.
Note: Any additional information as to the person of Mr. Norman F. Bonney would be greatly appreciated as well as any contribution of any photographic material.
The following article was written by Mr. Monroe Ingberrman for The Official Encyclopedia of Bridge, published by Crown Publishers, Inc. in the year 1976.
Example 1
South leads the King of Diamonds on which he throws a club from dummy. East is squeezed and must discard a Hearts. Now the lead of the Club King squeezes West in all three suits.
At the start South has all but two of the remaining tricks, but he manages to win all six by means of the squeeze technique.
Example 2
In order to initiate the squeeze South, on lead, plays the Ace of Diamonds, West plays the 3 of Diamonds, the 8 from the dummy, and this places East in a squeeze position. East discards a Club. On the next trick South plays and wins by leading the Jack of Spades. West is now squeezed in all three suits.
In order to successfully bring the squeeze to a close South continues to play whatever suit West has previously discarded, and thereby winning the remaining tricks.
